Why do I enjoy receiving flowers?
By Barbara Serating
I personally love to get flowers as a gift for my birthday, anniversary or when I am ill. I remember when I donated a kidney to my sister and spent a week in the hospital. Every day a new flower arrangement was carried into my hospital room. The arrangements were colorful, beautiful and arranged to perfection. Some of the flowers came in attractive dishes or vases that I could enjoy using forever. Many had adorable stuffed animals attached to the flowers. I received so many flowers that it took my family three trips to load them into our van. As sick as I was, the minute I opened my eyes and looked around at the floral assortments, I saw how many people cared about me. These flowers showed me that so many people were hoping for a successful transplant.
I can look back and remember many stunning flower arrangements such as roses, or mixed blooms that were sent to me to honor a momentous occasion in my life. I love receiving them and do not care that they may not be a practical gift.
Receiving flowers is one of the best things that can happen to me. Flowers are fine-looking, smell delicious and make me feel so good. I am thrilled that someone cared enough to take the time to decide to give me a striking and thoughtful gift.
Though flowers do not last forever, they are so awesome to receive. Even when I received floral arrangements when I lost a loved one, I still could see the beauty in each and every flower or plant that I have been sent. When I am not thinking about cost and length of time that they will live, my choice is a big gorgeous bouquet of red roses.
There is a time in my life that I most enjoy receiving flowers and that is when I least expect to receive them. I particularly appreciate a day when my husband takes the time and stops and picks me up a lovely bouquet of flowers. Obviously there is no birthday or illness going on. He is making an effort to show me how much he loves me. Honestly that is when I most love receiving flowers.
